Infused Suppositories

Hello, Calgary and area! There are some new and exciting products coming to dispensaries near you – including Prairie Grass’ infused suppositories. They are the first of their kind to the market and have left people with questions. Suppositories can be a difficult conversation, let alone with your budtender – but it doesn’t have to be! That’s where we come in. Read on to learn all about infused suppositories and how you can add them into your wellness routine.

Prairie Grass, a woman founded and owned company out of Alberta, has really made a splash with its new suppositories, which can be inserted anally or vaginally depending on your personal wellness needs. They are heavily marketed towards women for PMS and PCOS to help alleviate the symptoms related to those issues, but they are absolutely not exclusive to women; they can also be used rectally for men.

Infused suppositories are a localized product, meaning their effects are going to be mostly relative to the pelvic area. That makes them great for cramping, sore muscles, strain on the lower back or hips, and a plethora of other local issues you might need support with. Both their THC and CBD options are ethanol extracted; this means that ethanol, a colourless flammable liquid that’s produced by natural fermentation of sugars, can be used as a solvent. They do this by soaking the buds in ethanol for a duration of time that allows for the cannabinoids and terpenes to solubilize in the ethanol. The time duration is dependent on the temperature being used. You can use ethanol extraction in warm or cool conditions depending on the desired end result. After soaking, all the plant matter is removed and the ethanol mixture is filtered. Dending on the temperature used, they may have to remove more undesired levels of plant lipids. Ethanol is then removed from the mixture, but this step may be skipped depending on the original extraction process.

Prairie Grass’ suppositories are batch tested. Their CBD suppositories are made up of 40 mg of CBD from their outdoor hemp harvest. This dose helps with higher absorption rates within the body. Their THC version is derived from the “Bruce Banner” strain but doesn’t give the euphoria or high feeling. The one that is best for you will depend on your personal needs.

Hopefully this has given some base level insight for you into suppositories and how they work. We would be more than happy to help with your questions in-store or over the phone. Contact us today to learn more!
